DANGERS OF CONTACT LENSES
We would like to issue a warning to the public regarding contac lenses being supplied and sold by non-professional outlets. We are aware that a number of novelty shops and other outlets ar selling so called "cosmetic" contact lenses. These lenses have no magnetic power but may have colours and patterns on them for effect.
It is illegal in Ireland for anybody other than an optometrist, an optician or a medical practitioner to sell ANY KIND of contact lenses. There are many dangers associated with contact lenses if great care is not taken with regard to wearing schedules and hygeine. Severe, and extremely painful, infections can be conracted and may in some cases be sight threatening.
Contact lenses are included in the legal definition of spectacles and are governed by the Health & Social care Profession Act 2005, as amended 2014.
Please report any non-professional outlet to us on 01.4538850.
